A baseball player evaluation looks at an athlete’s hitting, pitching, fielding and base running, measures where they stand today, and turns that into a clear list of strengths, priorities and next steps. Coach Cinz’s Full Scouting Analysis covers all four areas in a three-hour, in-depth session and ends with a detailed report.
It is the most complete option alongside Zoom Lessons and Video Analysis in our online baseball lessons and swing analysis programs, and it gives those shorter sessions a clear target. Here is what gets evaluated, what you get, and how to prepare.
What gets evaluated
Hitting
Stance and posture, the load, stride, how the hips and shoulders sequence, bat path, and timing. Coach Cinz puts special weight on timing, because a hitter with good mechanics who is late still makes outs.
Pitching
Balance, the break and dangle of the hands and arm, stride length and direction, arm action, and follow-through, plus how consistently the athlete repeats the delivery. Arm health comes first: we recommend following the MLB and USA Baseball Pitch Smart guidelines, and an athlete with a sore arm should rest rather than throw. For pain or injury, see a doctor or athletic trainer.
Fielding
Ready position, first step, footwork, glove work and throwing. Coach Cinz teaches infield play through the 6 F’s: Feet, Field, Funnel, Footwork, Fire and Follow, which gives a simple way to see which part of the play breaks down.
Base running
The first step out of the box, turns around the bases, leads and reads. Base running is often the most overlooked part of a young player’s game, and small fixes can add up.
What is a baseball scouting report?
- Strengths. What the athlete already does well and should keep.
- Priorities. The gaps that matter most right now, in order.
- Direction. Where to focus training next, and which drills and sessions fit.
A written report also makes it easier to track progress. When the athlete re-films or re-tests later, the family has a baseline to compare against.
Where the mental game fits
Mechanics are only part of a player. Coach Cinz also develops the mental game: confidence, mindset and consistency. A player who freezes at the plate or loses the strike zone after one bad inning often needs a plan for the moment as much as a mechanical fix. Watching how an athlete responds to a miss or a bobble can say a lot about what to work on next, and it is a normal part of the conversation after an evaluation.
Full Scouting Analysis vs. other options
- Full Scouting Analysis ($390, 3 hours): hitting, pitching, fielding and base running, with a detailed report.
- Personal Assessment ($195): a one-on-one look at where the athlete stands, with a personal opinion from the coach. The best first step for many families.
- Video Analysis ($35): one skill, one video, drills back. Useful for a specific question.

When a full evaluation makes sense
- Before a new season or a tryout.
- When moving up an age level or to a bigger field.
- When progress has stalled and nobody can say why.
- When a player is choosing where to spend training time and money.
- When a family wants an outside opinion from an experienced coach.
For younger athletes, the goal is not a grade. It is a clear, encouraging plan. You can read more about how we work with kids on our youth baseball training page.
How to prepare
- Rest well the day before. A tired athlete does not show their real movement.
- Bring the gear. Bat, glove, helmet, cleats or turf shoes, and anything position-specific.
- Arrive ready to warm up. A proper warm-up protects the arm and gives a truer picture.
- Write down goals. Benchmark Step 1 covers this.
- Bring questions. Parents often have the best notes on what happens in games.
After the evaluation
The report becomes the plan. Many families follow it with a mix of in-person lessons and online sessions. Clean video helps; see how to film your baseball swing for analysis. Pitchers can read how to get feedback on your pitching mechanics remotely, and if you are unsure about remote training, do online baseball lessons work covers the pros and limits.
