Fielding is one skill where live reps really matter: reading a ball off the bat, getting the feet moving and making the throw under pressure. Baseball Fielding Training in Morris, IL with Coach Cinz combines those live reps at our facility with focused homework between visits. Our infield and fielding training hub explains the method.
Coach Cinz spent five years before the pandemic as a hitting, fielding and pitching instructor with the Chicago White Sox organization, working mainly with pre-draft players, and has over 25 years in baseball as a player or coach.
Is Naperville too far from Morris for fielding lessons?
Morris is in Grundy County, about 36.1 miles south of The Play & Thrive Club Naperville. The drive is about 52 minutes. It works best when each trip is planned: book a 1.5-hour Fielding Clinic, or two back-to-back 30-minute Private Lessons, so there is time to learn a skill and then test it.
Many Morris families treat the trip like a practice day: arrive with a goal, get the live reps that are hard to find at home, and leave with a short list of drills for the weeks ahead. Clinics also let a player take live action alongside other fielders, which is hard to recreate in a backyard.
What to do in Naperville, and what to do at home
At the facility
- The Fielding Clinic ($204) covers the 6 F’s: Feet, Field, Funnel, Footwork, Fire and Follow.
- Live action off the bat, then situational plays.
- 1-on-1 Private Lessons ($65) for infield, outfield or catching.
Between visits
- Send a clip of glove work or throws for Video Analysis ($35) and get drills back.
- Book a Zoom Lesson ($65, 30 minutes) to go over footwork live.
How Coach Cinz teaches defense
His focus is movements, mechanics and timing. For a fielder, timing means the first step and the rhythm of the feet into the throw. He explains the “why” behind each fix, and he works on the mental side too, so a player stays confident after an error.
Morris players who also pitch or catch can fold that work into the same visit, since a Private Lesson can cover any skill. For pitchers, Coach Cinz follows the MLB/USA Baseball Pitch Smart guidelines and recommends resting a sore arm; for pain or injury, see a doctor or athletic trainer.
A membership saves $20 per lesson, with no limit. Every athlete who books also gets a Play 2 Earn Sports player profile to track progress.

Morris families ask
How should a Morris player plan fielding sessions around a 52-minute drive?
Morris is about 36.1 miles from the Naperville facility. Plan fewer, longer visits, such as a 1.5-hour Fielding Clinic or two back-to-back 30-minute Private Lessons, and use Video Analysis or a Zoom Lesson between trips to review glove work and footwork.
Can fielding really be coached over video?
Partly. Live ground balls are best done in person, but footwork, glove position and throwing mechanics show up clearly on video. A Morris player can send a clip for Video Analysis and get drills back, then bring those fixes to the next in-person session.
